King Comforter Set

It’s been a while since you decided to treat yourself to a King size bed, and you still haven’t got round to buying all the appropriate sized bedding to fit it. One more night of wrestling undersized covers from the grip of your allegedly sleeping beloved proves to be one more night too many, however, and you’ve decided that today you’ll be looking for a King comforter set. But what do you buy, and how do you get the best for your money? Are some comforter set designs more versatile than others, and does one King comforter set size fit all?

The Standard King Size Comforter Set

There’s no reason why you can’t buy any of the components of a standard king comforter set separately, and if you only want one or two of them then this is the most sensible solution. Most people will want them all, in which case it will work out cheaper to buy them all together in a matching set. At the very least this will usually mean a heavy comforter, two pillow shams, a fitted sheet and a ruffled bed skirt. In addition, some luxury seven, eight or twelve piece King comforter sets include a variety of extra pillow shams or even pillows and bolsters in an assortment of sizes. Now is a good time to buy co-ordinating drapes too, as they may not always be available in your chosen design or color.

The California King Size Comforter Set

The California King size comforter set (or Cal King comforter set) has one minor difference, but not so minor that it must ever be confused with it’s standard counterpart, at least when it comes to buying a fitted sheet for it. The Cal King bed is four inches longer than the standard bed, and so is great for taller people. You should have little trouble finding a California King set as the range matches that of standard sets in most parts of the country, but any difficulties you do encounter should be easily resolved by shopping online.

King Size Comforter Set Colors And Designs

No doubt this is the bit you’re most excited about, but be realistic when making your decision as your enthusiasm could soon turn to exasperation. There’s little point in indulging in that glamorous snowy white King comforter set if you’re woken by sticky kids tumbling over your bed every morning. A reversible King comforter set offers plenty of versatility, perhaps allowing you to give the room a warmer, cozier look with a deeper color throughout the winter months and then switching it for something lighter and fresher through the summer. A zebra King size comforter set is the perfect mix of light and dark and will look striking all year round.

Your choice of King comforter set will obviously be a very personal one, but the points above are relevant to everyone and so it’s important to bear them in mind when buying. Then you can look forward to a night spent sleeping soundly in a beautifully snug bed, instead of a night spent grappling with a cover snatching partner!

    Queen Comforter Sets

Since a full size bed will do quite adequately for most of us, it’s not too much of a leap to assume that the majority of queen size bed owners like to stretch out in luxury. If you’re one of those people then it’s likely that shabby or mundane bedding is not for you, and that you choose to dress your bed with stylish and contemporary queen comforter sets, enjoying the touch of decadence that they provide. With prices lower in many cases than they’ve ever been, if you own a queen size bed and have yet to treat yourself to a beautiful queen comforter set then it’s about time you gave in to your dreams and indulged in one.

    The Queen Comforter Set

Modern queen comforter sets are designed so that making up the bed is easy, and are generally comprised of a ruffled bed skirt, a fitted sheet, two pillow shams and a matching or co-ordinating heavyweight comforter. Luxury queen comforter sets will also include several more shams or pillows. The days are gone when we had to wrestle with sheets and blankets like our grandmothers did. Now we can just throw the comforter over the bed, arrange our pillows and go. Now that IS luxury!

    Queen Size Comforter Set Construction

In addition to knowing how queen comforter sets are comprised, it’s also helpful to know something of the fabrics with which they are constructed. The really vital factor which you should be aware of is that of thread count, which refers to the number of threads per square inch of the fabric and is generally in the range of 200 to 1000. When it comes to sheets and pillow shams you need only worry about comfort, which is usually to be found in the 400 to 600 range, although ideally you should aim higher. This true of comforters too, but here you have to bear in mind that the lower the thread count, the more likely it is that your comforter will slowly lose it’s stuffing as the thin, cheap fabric that encases it will be too loosely woven and therefore incapable of keeping it in. In the unlikely event that comfort doesn’t bother you, you might like to know that a thread count of as low as 240 is usually sufficient to stop this slow loss of stuffing.

How About A Purple Queen Comforter Set? Choose Your Color And Style

Armed with this information, you can now go shopping. You’ll find no shortage of colors and styles in queen comforter sets, but some will be more prevalent than others according to the trends at the time. The brown queen comforter set in shades that were so popular in the seventies is currently enjoying a revival, and there’s no shortage of people anxious to buy a purple queen comforter set either. Animal prints are very much in vogue now too, with leopard and zebra print queen comforter sets being particularly sought after.

Whether your preference is for blue, black or white, for modern color blocking or for antique style lace, there’s a huge number of queen comforter sets out there that will fit the bill. Dress your bed in the sumptuous fashion it was designed for. It deserves it, and so do you!
